Adult Use Sales Begin in Ohio Tuesday August 6th
Ohio is set to become the 21st state to begin adult-use cannabis sales when licensed dispensaries open their doors to those aged 21 and over at 10 a.m. on August 6.
Although the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) has yet to officially issue dual-use operation certificates—permitting existing dispensaries to serve both medical patients and adult-use customers—the division is expected to make a formal announcement on August 5, according to a spokesperson from the Department of Commerce.
Once dispensaries receive their certificates, the DCC will update a map indicating which of the 134 dispensaries that applied for dual-use licenses will be ready to serve adult-use customers. The spokesperson did not specify how many dispensaries will be ready to open on the first day when speaking with Cannabis Business Times.
However, as of August 2, several Ohio cannabis companies confirmed to Cannabis Business Times (CBT) that they have been approved to begin sales on August 6 at some or all of their Ohio locations. These companies include Cresco Labs (Sunnyside) and Verano (Zen Leaf), both based in Chicago; Trulieve and Bloom Medicinals from Florida; The Cannabist Co. (Columbia Care) from New York; Curaleaf from Massachusetts; and three Ohio-based operators: Buckeye Relief (Amplify), Standard Wellness (The Forest), and Klutch Cannabis (The Citizen).
