It’s well known that people from Ohio often travel to Michigan to purchase marijuana. Numerous dispensaries located close to the Ohio border, in cities such as Monroe and Morenci, promote how close they are to Ohio.
Since Ohio began legal recreational marijuana sales in early August, dispensaries in the state have generated close to $55 million in recreational cannabis sales within the first month.
However, newly released data from Michigan’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency indicates that Michigan dispensaries have not been significantly affected. In fact, recreational cannabis sales in Michigan reached $294 million in August, up from $286 million in July—an increase of nearly 3%. This also marks a rise of almost 9% compared to the $271 million in sales recorded in August of last year.
Will this continue, or will Ohio prices and supply adequately meet resident’s demand as the industry expands?
