Ohio Regulators Issue Dual Use Provisional Licenses

Dual-use Licenses in Ohio

According to Marijuana Moment, Ohio’s cannabis regulators have approved numerous provisional licenses allowing existing medical marijuana operators to transition to dual-use licenses, paving the way for the potential launch of the state’s recreational market. The Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) has already granted 62 provisional dual licenses to dispensaries, cultivators, processors, and testing labs, just two weeks after applications were first accepted.

Ahead of accepting applications, the department provided informational materials to guide prospective applicants on meeting regulatory requirements necessary for eligibility for these hybrid licenses. While recipients of provisional licenses cannot immediately begin selling to adult consumers, they must demonstrate compliance with several criteria. This includes updating point-of-sale systems to differentiate between medical cannabis and adult-use sales, bolstering security measures, and ensuring they can sustain sufficient inventory for patients.

Once these standards are met, and any required inspections are completed, license holders can secure a certificate of operation to commence dual sales.
